The Animal Control Department is responsible for the daily care of all animals and the cleaning of the facility. Duties include collecting strays and animals at large, delivering and picking up of animal traps, picking up and disposing of dead animals in City right of ways, investigating animal cruelty, dog bites, and nuisances. Additional duties are euthanizing animals, sending possible rabies to the Texas Department of Health, writing citations for violation of City Ordinances, and the sale of City registration tags and collection of impound fees. There are currently two full-time animal control officers.
When payments need to be made for fees, fines, and adoptions, citizens will need pay at the Aransas Pass Police Department. The Police Department is located at 600 W Cleveland Blvd. Such payments can be made during normal business hours. We will not accept payments after hours.
Would you like to adopt an animal from the Aransas Pass Animal Control Facility? You can stop by the facility Monday – Friday 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. to look at animals. You must sign in at the front desk at Public Works and receive a visitor’s pass. Only two families will be allowed in the facility at one time. Adoption rates are as follows:
- $70 for non-altered dogs – cost covers spay/neuter ($65) and rabies ($5)
- $25 for altered Dogs – cost covers adoption fee ($20) and Rabies ($5)
You will receive a voucher to the Portland Veterinary Hospital with veterinarian Rafael Fontanez, D.V.M. and Tammy Fontanez D.V.M for the spay/neuter and vaccinations. They are located at 520 W. Broadway in Portland, TX 78374.
We are currently accepting applications for a volunteer group which would assist our animal control officers. Volunteers would be responsible for duties such as cleaning, interacting with animals, grooming/bathing, and paperwork. Click here to download the form.
